Habits the Q Gave Me: No. 3 “Movement Is Magic"

HABITS THE Q GAVE ME (3 of 5): ⭐️✨⚡️💫 Movement is magic

PROCESS: Every day, I hike a 2.5-mile trail in the a.m. and do a @melissawoodhealth class via her app (which is what I’m doing in this video and have used for the past 2 months!) in the p.m. Those two things have not only kept me sane, but also have been healing both inside and out.

It’s officially been over a year of having this herniated disc massively affect my life (28 going on 85, what’s up 👵🏻). For a large part of last year, I could barely sit for more than 10 minutes at a time, was living off of doctor prescribed super Advils, and was forbidden to walk more than 1/4th of a mile at a time.

I was going to 3-4 doctors appointments a week between the physical therapist, acupuncturist, and orthopedic specialist who finally stole me a few months of comfort with an epidural.

Growing up, exercise/fitness wasn’t a thought. I had hyper horses that needed riding and a Jack Russel Terrier who needed walking every day so I was just caring for them not exercising with a capital E. In college, I worked out MAYBE once or twice a semester. Bible. Lol –– thank you high metabolism.

So it wasn’t until post-grad that I was remotely consistent with working out. I quickly learned that I process (read: go through break ups) with hard workouts –– shoutout to @afterburnfitness@yogaloftmb & @hipstudio in the South Bay for being my one true loves.

TBH – my body doesn’t look superrrr different if I’m having Ben & Jerry’s for dinner/not working out for months -OR- eating crazy clean and clocking in a.m. and p.m. classes at AB.

But when my back went south, I realized what a blessing being able to move is. I didn’t realize just how much my body and mind needed movement to show up as my best self until it was taken away cold turkey.

The back pain is unfortunately back (aka the epidural wore off as expected). Luckily, it’s not as bad as it was this past fall and the combo of long walks + yoga really helps manage the discomfort.

So thankful for a body that is letting me move this time around & Chuco Town’s desert sunsets to carry me through this bonkers pandemic.
