What To Do with Only One Afternoon in Portland

1.    The Original Salt and Straw:

For the best ice cream you’ve ever tasted.

Two cousins escaped their cubicles and started this ice cream shop! They started in Portland and have grown to LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, & Orange County.

It’s exciting to visit each of their locations because aside from their bizarre and delicious flavors (like Olive Oil and Honey Lavender), they are passionate about sourcing ingredients from local farms and businesses. Each store has different, locally sourced flavors!

They also have rad seasonal menus! On deck for Thanksgiving…

2.    Pittock Mansion:

For the best view of Mt. Hood & the city

Built in 1909, this was the home of one of Oregon’s most influential, founding families. They watched the city grow from a frontier town to a booming town!

3.    Voodoo Doughnuts:

For the weirdest doughnuts you’ve ever seen

Bizarre, famous, and cash only. Prepare to wait in a line!

4.    Saturday Market + Waterfront Park:

For the largest continuous outdoor market in the U.S. (Weird in a city where it rains so much?)

Crafts, produce, and food. If you’re into traveling to farmer’s markets and craft festivals, this one is open every weekend March-December! If you go around sunset, the light from the sky and city bounces off of the water and it just beyond beautiful!

5.    Powell’s Bookstore:

For the largest private new & used bookstore in the world (also possibly the cheapest!)

This is a bookworm’s wonderland. As I was wandering through the aisles, I kept seeing titles jump out at me that I have read over the years. It was like an old friend was waving hello around every corner.
